My highlights of the orcharhino Summit were the two customer presentations by Frank (Benteler) and Martin Zimmermann (Fujitsu), who gave exciting and, above all, practical insights into the use of orcharhino. This was preceded by a Presentation by Jan Bundesmann (Consultant at ATIX AG) on possible Use Cases.
Frank Recker has described his practical experience of orcharhino in interaction with Microsoft Windows hosts. He and his team use orcharhino to manage hosts at different locations, for which they use smart proxies, among other things. As an example, he presented the adaptation of templates and the deployment of several Windows hosts. With the help of orcharhino and Ansible Roles, numerous Windows VMs, e.g. AD domain controllers, file servers or admin workstations, were rolled out.
Martin Zimmermann presented his practical experience of configuration management with Puppet and automatic host provisioning via orcharhino. The focus of the presentation was on the central management of IT with the help of orcharhino. He and his team use several staging levels to guide configuration changes in Puppet through development, testing and production. Puppet modules are checked into git and are automatically deployed to Puppet Master after a code review.
In addition, Bernhard Suttner (Head of Software Development at ATIX AG) presented the development model and highlighted the connection to the developer and user community in particular. The open source basis of orcharhino offers numerous advantages, such as the opportunity to have a say in new features.
Thomas Merz (CEO of ATIX AG) spoke about the support services offered by ATIX AG. Various support options including further support offers were presented.
Finally, Jonas Trüstedt (Senior Consultant at ATIX AG) conducted a short orcharhino demo and presented best practices in dealing with content in orcharhino.
There were 70 participants in total. I can only agree with the positive conclusion given by the participants and look forward to further events in this style.
