These hosts have dependencies on each other, for example, an application server might require a database server. The number of deployed hosts depends on the expected usage of the application. You can scale an application instance vertically via&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.orcharhino.com\/or\/docs\/sources\/guides\/ubuntu\/provisioning_hosts\/kvm.html#adding-kvm-details-to-a-compute-profile_kvm-provisioning\">compute profile<\/a>&nbsp;or horizontally by choosing multiple hosts to run the same service to handle increased workloads.&nbsp; Refer to the application centric&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.orcharhino.com\/or\/docs\/sources\/guides\/application_centric_deployment.html\">deployment guide<\/a>&nbsp;for more information. This example shows how to deploy an application consisting of two services:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/prometheus\/prometheus\">Prometheus<\/a>&nbsp;to collect metrics and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/grafana\/grafana\">Grafana<\/a>&nbsp;to visualize data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br>Prometheus and Grafana<\/strong><br>Prometheus and Grafana is a monitoring stack to store and visualize time series data. Prometheus collects and stores metrics. Grafana provides a browser based interface to analyze and visualize data.<br>The dashboard contains any numbers of widgets to display metrics and resulting key performance indicators, for example \u201ePerformance as handled requests per second\u201c or \u201eUtilization as percentage of used CPU and memory resources\u201c. Monitoring metrics leads to a better understanding of your computing environment and better decision making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br>Requirements for this example<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>orcharhino\u00a0configured to deploy hosts running CentOS 7<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>configured host group for CentOS 7, including necessary content for hosts, e.g. packages that will be installed via an Ansible task<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one time root access to\u00a0orcharhino\u00a0via ssh to put the Ansible playbook into\u00a0<code>\/etc\/foreman\/plugins\/foreman_acd\/ansible-playbooks\/<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>orcharhino\u00a0enabled to perform smart proxy functionality with remote execution for its submitting the Ansible playbook to\u00a0orcharhino.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br>Setting up an Application Definition in&nbsp;orcharhino<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigate to\u00a0<strong>Applications > App Definitions<\/strong>\u00a0and click the\u00a0<strong>New Application Definition<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a name and select the Ansible playbook from the step earlier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Define two services:\u00a0<code>prometheus<\/code>\u00a0and\u00a0<code>grafana<\/code>.We recommend using a host group with CentOS 7 for both services.<br>The used\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.orcharhino.com\/or\/docs\/sources\/guides\/ubuntu\/provisioning_hosts\/kvm.html#adding-kvm-details-to-a-compute-profile_kvm-provisioning\">compute profile<\/a>\u00a0(mostly CPU and RAM) depends on the size and interval of scraping metrics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Submit<\/strong>\u00a0to save your application definition to\u00a0orcharhino.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The two steps above are usually handled by an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.orcharhino.com\/or\/docs\/sources\/guides\/application_centric_deployment.html#User_Roles_for_Application_Centric_Deployment_application_centric_deployment\">administrative user<\/a>.<br>Once this has been prepared, users with restricted rights can conveniently define and deploy multi host applications as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br>Define an application instance in orcharhino<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigate to\u00a0<strong>Applications > App Instances<\/strong>\u00a0and click the\u00a0<strong>New Application Instance\u00a0<\/strong>button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a name and select the application definition from the step earlier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using the\u00a0<strong>+<\/strong>\u00a0sign, add hosts to the two services from the application definition.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this example, we create two hosts: one Prometheus node and one Grafana node.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br>Deploy an application instance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigate to\u00a0<strong>Applications > App Instances<\/strong>\u00a0and click the\u00a0<strong>Deploy<\/strong>\u00a0button.<br>Grab a cup of coffee while your hosts are being deployed and configured.<br>This process might take a while depending on your environment, compute resource provider, and network connectivity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>View the last deployment by clicking the\u00a0<strong>Show Report<\/strong>\u00a0link.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>You now have a fully functional Prometheus and Grafana cluster consisting of one Prometheus node ready to collect data and one Grafana node to visualize your data.<br>Start collecting metrics using the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/prometheus\/node_exporter\">node exporter<\/a>&nbsp;or third party software that stores metrics which are fetched by Prometheus.<br>There are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/prometheus.io\/docs\/instrumenting\/exporters\/\">plenty of community created solutions<\/a>&nbsp;to export metrics to Prometheus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Comment or tweet us&nbsp;<a
