Conductix-Wampfler was looking for a software solution to centralize and update the management of their Linux systems. Particularly important was the patch and release management of existing production systems, which are to be managed centrally via a uniform interface. The new solution is intended to replace the outdated repository mirrors with integrated package management. The focus was on supporting their SLES 12 and SLES 15 database servers. The existing infrastructure should be integrated into the new setup, for example DNS server management using Windows AD.
Centralized Server Management with orcharhino
In search of a partner for an efficient automation solution for their server management, Conductix-Wampfler discovered ATIX AG. With orcharhino, it has found a tool that significantly simplifies the management of its data centers. Processes such as setting up new servers, configuring managed systems, or patch and release management are automated. All connected servers can be monitored, managed and controlled with the help of orcharhino.
As a rule, system configuration is standardized using host groups. For cases where this is not sufficient, orcharhino offers full flexibility to override the configurations of individual systems. Thanks to preconfigured standard scenarios, setting up and configuring new systems with orcharhino is up to five times faster. With the help of pre-built job templates, both existing and new systems can be efficiently brought up to a uniform standard.

Orcharhino’s package management system meets both the requirements for consistent and traceable package versions and the direct management of SUSE operating systems. Orcharhino has been successfully tested and is already in use.
The previous solution was quickly replaced by orcharhino: the existing repository mirrors were replaced by a stable and traceable package management via content views and activation keys. orcharhino allows rapid provisioning and timely rollout of up-to-date security serrata. This allows you to maintain multiple package versions for different systems in parallel. orcharhino includes a job template for automatically upgrading SUSE Service Packs. This creates a central management hub via orcharhino, including package management with multiple package versions, SUSE support, and an overview of all servers with errata support—plus, as a bonus, additional Service Pack upgrades.
Conductix-Wampfler uses the SCC Manager plug-in in particular to conveniently synchronize SUSE software repositories with orcharhino and distribute them to managed systems in its own data center.
