CentOS ist ein Open Source Linuxbetriebssystem, welches primär für die Binärkompatibilität zu Red Hat Enterprise Linux (kurz: RHEL) bekannt ist. Es basiert auf den Quellen von RHEL und wird durch die Community bereitgestellt. Es bedarf keiner Subscription, sodass beliebig viele Systeme betrieben werden können. CentOS ist als Enterprise Linux im Gegensatz zu Debian und Ubuntu primär auf den Betrieb auf Servern ausgelegt, obgleich es auch grafische Desktopumgebungen und Applikationen gibt.
